Children's Extensive Support (CES) services are designed for children with I/DD who have significant behavioral, medical, or physical support needs. These services help families care for their children at home and in the community, offering flexible, person-centered support tailored to the child's and family's unique circumstances. CES services are funded through the CES Medicaid waiver.
Community Connector services support a child’s ability to access and participate in everyday life within their community. This one-on-one service helps children:
These services are highly individualized and adapted to the child’s developmental level, interests, and goals. Community Connector services take place in a variety of inclusive settings where the child has opportunities to engage with peers and adults without disabilities.
Respite services under CES are intended to provide relief to a primary caregiver or family member. These services can be delivered in the child’s home, the caregiver’s home, or in the community, and are designed to ensure the child’s safety, engagement, and continuity of support while their primary caregiver takes a needed break.
The different types of respite and their frequency are dependent on availability and the individual child's service plan.
Homemaker Basic services are designed to help maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for the child within their primary residence. These services are intended to directly benefit the child by ensuring the areas they use are clean and safe, while also teaching them skills to care for their environment over time.
Basic services may include:
Please note: Homemaker services do not include personal care, tasks the child can perform independently, or services delivered in uncertified congregate facilities. Services must be provided only in the areas of the home the child regularly uses, and not in private spaces belonging to other household members.
Enhanced services include all aspects of Basic Homemaker support, as well as additional services like extraordinary cleaning and specialized sanitation of the child's living areas due to behavioral needs or medical conditions.
In addition, enhanced homemaker services will include training and habilitation, using specific, age-appropriate goals to help the child build independence in household tasks. This may include step-by-step instruction, verbal prompting, and partial physical assistance.
Examples of additional/extraordinary services offered under enhanced homemaker services:
CES is available to children up to age 17 who are enrolled in the CES Medicaid waiver. These services are designed for children who require a high level of care to remain safely at home and actively involved in their communities. Families receive direct support to help manage daily care needs while promoting the child's independence, growth, and social participation.
